Shades of Tay - Art on the Tay
Art on the Tay is an exciting new project; a glorious response to the people, the places and the rich landscape of the River Tay. A wonderful combination of heritage, nature and arts.
We are collaborating with The Scottish Crannog Centre and the Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT) on Art on the Tay through a number of activities that celebrate our natural landscape and bring people together to express themselves and their passion for our region through the arts.
Words of the Way Workshops
Join us for FREE writing workshops on 8 and 9 April and liberate your creativity.
These writing workshops will focus on writing for different forms inspired by the wonderful river Tay and its landscapes and communities. Some of the writing will be selected to be recorded by professional actors and featured on Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s website and at a Celebration event in the summer.
The workshops are led by the award-winning writers Malachy Tallack and Imogen Stirling.

Malachy Tallack is the award-winning author of four books, most recently Illuminated by Water (2022). His novel, The Valley at the Centre of the World (2018) was shortlisted for the Highland Book Prize and longlisted for the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize. Malachy is also a singer-songwriter. He has released four albums and performed in venues across the UK. Malachy is from Shetland, and currently lives in Fife.
Imogen Stirling is a playwright, performance poet and musician, shortlisted for the Out-Spoken Prize for Poetry 2022 and named ‘Artist of the Year’ supported by the National Theatre of Scotland (SETA 2021). She was the inaugural Writer-in-Residence for Paisley Book Festival 2021 and features as a writer/performer on BAFTA-winning Sky Arts documentary, Life & Rhymes, hosted by Benjamin Zephaniah. Her poetry collection, Love The Sinner, published by Verve Poetry Press, is currently being adapted for theatre by Vanishing Point Theatre Company, and will premiere in Spring 2023 at the Tron Theatre and Traverse Theatre. Imogen is recognised for her five-star debut collection and show #Hypocrisy (Speculative Books, 2019) and was a participant of the BBC Words First talent development scheme (BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Asian Network and BBC Contains Strong Language). She is currently Artist Development Coordinator at the Tron Theatre and is based in Glasgow.
TayKen By Me-Tayside photography competition returns to find exciting new images of the River Tay
Amateur photographers of all ages are invited to take part in a photography competition celebrating the magnificent beauty of the River Tay from 1 March 2023.
Now in its second year, the TAYken By Me competition is being held by Pitlochry Festival Theatre (PFT) and Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT), as part of the theatre’s acclaimed project Shades of Tay, a Love Letter to Scotland and PKCT’s new long-distance active travel route the River Tay Way.
The competition is free to enter and open to all amateur photographers anywhere in the world, but all images must have been photographed during the competition dates – 1 March to 31 August 2023 – in the vicinity of the mighty River Tay.
